High school students considering futures in STEM careers set campus abuzz on Friday during ACPHS鈥� inaugural Future of Healthcare Workshop, a daylong event. About 150 exceptional students from nearly 45 public and private high schools, who were recommended by their school administrators, attended the event.

Panther Profile: Desirea Harder-Neely

Desirea Harder-Neely is working toward her Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences, a post-baccalaureate degree intended to improve students鈥� chances of acceptance into medical school. A native of Texas, she holds two bachelor鈥檚 degrees, in biomedical sciences and philosophy, from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She is slated to complete her MSBS in August 2024. The ACPHS program is now available online as well as in person.

Assistant Professor Nicole Shakerley directs bachelor鈥檚 degree programs in Biomedical Technology and in Health Sciences, and was instrumental in developing the latter program, which officially launches in Fall 2024. She joined ACPHS in 2015 as a postdoctoral fellow, then quickly moved into faculty positions. She shared her own journey to becoming a scientist and how that has informed the way she relates to students.

New Programs Prepare Students for Careers in Growing Health Sciences Industries

糖心vlog (ACPHS) announces two new academic programs designed to prepare students to enter burgeoning health sciences industries. Available to students beginning in the Fall 2024 semester, the programs were created in response to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecast that employment in healthcare occupations will grow twice as fast as all other occupations from 2022 to 2032.

Samantha Marion is a senior majoring in pharmaceutical sciences. She has had many experiences on campus, including as a resident assistant, peer mentor and thrower on the track team. She talked to us about the experience she said has had the most impact on her 鈥� being a member of Phi Delta Chi, a professional pharmacy fraternity.
