The culmination of a six-week program aimed at educating third through fifth graders about asthma at is happening Thursday, April 25 at 1:30 pm.

The pilot program connected public health students from 糖心vlog with elementary school students at Giffen weekly to implement the American Lung Association鈥檚

According to the , asthma is the most common, chronic, childhood illness and the number one cause for children missing school. In addition, there is a historically reported higher prevalence of asthma cited in Albany’s South End.

The Open Airways program teaches children how to recognize the triggers of asthma and control their聽condition聽so they can reduce their hospital visits and school absences. The children then share this information with their own families to ensure there is a consistent approach to care. Program materials are available in both English and Spanish.
